Playa Blanca Beach

Description of Playa Blanca Beach:
The property is located on Playa Blanca beach, just 20 minutes from the international airport and thirty minutes from downtown Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Playa Blanca is a spectacular wide sandy ten miles long beach. At the South end of the beach is Barra de Potosi, a small village with many beach restaurants and a huge lagoon for birders, kayaks, and paddle boards.
Playa Blanca sits on the Pacific Coast of Mexico 30 minutes south and a world away from the major resort city of Zihuatanejo. This is not your typical resort area; there are no crowds of tourists, no high-rise condos, no all-you-can-drink bars, no yacht harbour, no golf course. It is an amazingly laid back stretch of nature speckled with small hotels, restaurants and vacation homes mixed with the simple houses of local Mexican fishermen and coconut workers. Barra de Potosi is a fishing village of 500 people with three blocks of streets and a couple of small stores. The village sits at the mouth of a large lagoon ringed by mangroves where local men fish everyday in small open fishing boats everyday for red snapper or net sardines and other fish.

The Perfect Day at Playa Blanca:
Life at Playa Blanca is simple; that’s its allure.  The perfect day starts with a meandering walk on the beach.  You have ten miles of soft white sand to roam; you will see pelicans and boobies diving for dimpling sardines in the surf, maybe some dolphins making their morning rounds, shells in the sand.  After breakfast, you may follow that up with a relaxing swim in 80 something degree water.
After some hammock time, you probably will wander down the beach to your enramada (beach restaurant) of choice and settle in for a couple of hours of Mexican-style comida.  The fish will be fresh, the guacamole rich and the waiter will be in no hurry.
As the day wanes, you need to think about watching the sunset.  Pick a comfortable spot, arrange for your beverage of choice and sit back an enjoy.
The big action at night is on Main Street in the village.  A couple of taco restaurants magically appear as darkness drops with their tables set in the street.  A broad mix of locals and gringos settle in for cold cervezas and small plates of fresh, authentic, cheap and delicious Mexican food.  You never know exactly what to expect; the street will be full of kids playing some games, the local dogs will be socializing, everybody knows everybody, maybe some impromptu dancing in the street will break out.  After all that excitement, you can close the perfect day by lulling yourself to sleep with the sound of waves lapping the sand.

Getting to Playa Blanca:
The Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport  (ZIH) is a major tourist airport and lies at the north end of Playa Blanca Beach. There is a wide selection of flights both direct from the US and Canada and passing through Mexico City.
As you approach the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo airport, you will likely circle the Playa Blanca Bay which is just south of Zihuatanejo. You may see Los Moros (white islets just outside the bay), Cerro Guaymilule (the forested point at the south end of the bay) and the Laguna Potosi (lagoon extending inland from Guaymilule).
